TEHRAN – A concept car design by a young Iranian designer, Amin Dahreh-Sobh, finds its way to Peugeot’s top 30 list of future automobiles, ISNA reported on Sunday.

Car companies normally hold design contest each year to identify the best talents to come up with fresh and innovative sketches for their future markets. The challenge set forth by Peugeot this year, is aimed to select a body sheet for its 2007 concept car.

Concept cars are not for mass production, but they inspire a new generation of automobiles intended to attract more buyers. They are a combination of aesthetic and industrial design. A question comes to mind: why don’t our manufacturers take advantage of this great pool of young talents in the country?

“Some work has been done in this field but it is far from ideal. Given the number of eager and innovative designers in Iran, IKCO may easily introduce one new model of Samand passenger sedans per year,” Alireza Mohammadzadegan, former designer at Iran Khodro Company (IKCO), said.

At the moment, a new model of IKCO’s Paykan, X11, is being designed by an Italian firm.

Dahreh-Sobh’s concept car design will be judged by an international panel of academics and journalists in the final section of Peugeot contest.
